April 1st - My Birthday Day
Eric and I have a birthday tradition for both of our birthdays. We DO NOT work on our Birthdays. For me this started many years ago when my birthday happened to fall on my usual weekly off day. I enjoyed not having to be stressed about April Fool's jokes, about my phone ringing constantly while at work and not being out in the rain. From then on I have not worked on my birthday now going on a total of five years in a row. First of all people think that because my birthday is on April Fool's Day that I think that it is funny to have pranks pulled on me, well I don't think that it is funny so I typically avoid people that don't know me well enough not to pull pranks on me, that would be people that I work with. Second I have a very large family, well my parents have very large families and most of them tend to call on my Birthday, which is super nice but the ones that I only talk to on Christmas and my Birthday, because I really don't know them so I don't talk to them much, think that they are the only ones calling me and that we should talk for an hour. At work I don't have time for that so I just stay home so that I will have time for them. People like Caroline and G and G Roberts and local folks they just call to say Happy Birthday and then we catch up on another day, so those I can handle but Aunts and cousins I wouldn't know on the street they need more time. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the fact that I got 21 phone calls, 17 text messages, and 11 e-mails all from different people, but it would make the work day unproductive! Third, for the last 9 years including this one it has rained on my birthday. I know as a child it rained here and there, but I am positive that for the last 9 years it has rained on my actual birthday. This year it didn't rain past 9:00AM, but it had rained for several days prior and the atmosphere was still pretty gloomy. I just don't live rushing around in the rain, trying to meet people for dinner and I hate the way my hair looks on a rainy days so I add that to the list of why I don't go to work on my Birthday. Eric soon learned that he liked being off on my Birthday and started joining me and then took up the tradition for his Birthday too.
Eric and I typically have a pretty standard laid back birthday plan involving pedicures, lunch and standard laziness. Eric tries to plan things on my Birthday that are fun too do, but they really can not include food like most people's do. Food is my enemy and if I want to have a good day than there is no point in involving something that can not be pronounced because chances are Traviee (my tummy) is not going to like it! Travis does much better with things like Subway and Jason's Deli than he does with Brio or even Ruby Tuesday's. It is funny how even a plain baked potato and broccoli (always two safe fall backs) end up having all these crazy salts, peppers and sauces at restaurants that Travis can not handle.
Eric said that he had several planned things for my Birthday but we only had to do the one at night all the others were flexible and optional. We started out with pedicures and lunch at Chick-Fil-A. Then we went on to the house and then decided because we are off we may as well take advantage of everyone being at work and headed over to Costco to get some standard shopping out of the way. We had a great and productive trip as usual and Eric was able to fill his tummy (Tera) with many many snacks, which lead to us buying things that he tasted, but that just means that Costco's marketing is worth their while. they were having a boat show in the parking lot, we toured several boats, but I was able to convince Eric that we don't need a boat, because number one we all know I get motion sickness (even in the car, when I am driving) and that we don't have a truck to pull one, nor a place to store or use a boat. He agreed that we should not buy me a boat for my birthday. We went home and unloaded the Costco items and quickly and headed back out so that Luke and Bogo could rest. The animals get very perturbed when we are both off when we should clearly be at work not disturbing their day. We went over to the movie theater by the house. First I must tell you that my sweet Eric arranged for a private showing, I felt like I was on my very own episode of the Bachelor. No, actual there was just no body in the theater on a Wednesday at 2:30 PM, it was actual super weird. We saw Paul Bart Mall Cop, which I don't really recommend wasting your money on. it was one of those movies that they showed all the funny parts in the previews and kinda showed the whole story as well. There just really wasn't much too it. It wasn't a bad movie, just not a very good one, more of a netfllix movie.
After the movie I totally forgot to turn my cell back on. We then took Luke and Daisy out to the park and they played for over an hour so the nine people that left me voicemail's during that time frame did not get called back. I did get the messages and appreciated them all very much. We later went in to Hoover to dine at Cafe Lazio, one of my favorite places to eat. One because they have great BOGO coupons in the school books and two because they are a but of a no frills place so they don't cook with funky stuff and I have yet to feel bad after eating there.
Stayed tuned for the Birthday Night post to see what happened next!
