Sick, Sick and Sicker
I mentioned last week that I was not feeling well (on Saturday), but thought that it was just a cold. A week and a half later I still have the cold and have now given it to my closet and not so closet friends. It trickled on through the rest of the week, but I didn't really start to feel it until Thursday. Thursday at work everyone noticed for the first time that I looked and sounded sick. Of course on Thursday we all had to stay at the office until 8:00PM for our office retreat. I really didn't look well and was told that I could go home. I mentioned that I didn't drive and that Emily would have to go home early too. With that I was then told that they could find me a place to lay down and rest until 8:00pm. I stayed in the meeting and weakly stuck it out.
Emily and I got in the car and began to travel home. I was very thankful that Emily had driven, because even if she didn't she would have been driving my car. We were all most to my exit when unfortunately I started to feel really sick. Emily asked, "Are you okay?" I kindly asked Emily to pull over. In the process of her having to cross all the lanes to get to the side of the road, I threw-up. I tried to keep it on me, but I really had no such luck. I threw-up all over the passengers side of Emily's car. I was so embarrassed and sorry for throwing up in her car. If there is one thing that I know about Emily it is that she does NOT handle bodily functions well, at all. Poor thing, she is sitting on the other side of the car trying to make sure that I am okay while trying not to lose her dinner herself.
We finally got home, I changed my clothes and helped Emily clean out her car. We collectively decided that I would not be making it into work tomorrow and that she could vouch for my situation.
The next day, I woke up feeling much better but still new that I needed some type of treatment besides the self medication that I had been on. I ended up going to the GI and getting two shots and a prescription. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection, a cold and my Crohn's had flared up. When I am sick my digestive tract works even less than usual and it really effects my Crohn's.
I ended up going on to the office because I really was feeling better and I didn't want to have to use a sick day. I made it through the day pretty well. I was a bit tired but nothing to difficult to make it through. I went home crawled in the bed and went right to sleep.
I woke up the next morning, (Saturday) feeling better than the day before. The only kicker was that I had a huge cold sore on the inside of my lip and it looked like I had been in a fist fight. I decided that I would head over to CVS and see if I could find some thing for my lip. I got out of the car and began to walk up the side walk when suddenly I felt sick. All I remember is thinking, "Who's bright idea was it to put a lid on all the trashcans and how am I going to get my head in the square hole." At that moment I threw-up all over the sidewalk at CVS. At this point I am really just mad that I am still sick. My husband had been out of town this entire time and I am tired of feeling like crap!
I went next door to the Urgent Care Clinic. They got me back into a room and to be seen within 10 minutes. I ended up spending over two and half hours there. I was given the option of having shots or an IV. Stubborn me did not want the IV. I opted for the shot and that was not a good idea. 30 minutes after having the shot and then being given fluids I was still not able to keep anything down. I then had to have the IV. During the time that I laid on the bed in the doctor's office I caught up on some much needed rest. Once I was released, I then returned to CVS and had my three new prescriptions (all liquid of course) filled. At this point of me being sick I basically have not absorbed any of my Crohns medication for at least a week. Liquids and shots are much easier for me to absorb because my body doesn't have to actually break anything down and/or digest it.
I am still on medication and still out of whack, but I am very glad that I am feeling much better, keeping food down and that Eric is home!!! I send my sincerest apologizes to all those who I have giving my germs to and of course to Emily and her car, Marge.
